Introduction

The MSc in Business Information Systems combines specialist IT training with the opportunity to study key areas of business and management.  The course is designed to provide you with up to date and relevant knowledge of modern information and communications technology and its use in key business and organisational settings. A major strength of the course is its emphasis on the integration of information systems, developing in you the ability to allow organisations to gain true advantage from their information systems.

Entry Requirements

Students should have obtained one of the following:

  • a relevant first degree (for example information technology, business information systems, supply chain management, logistics management, operations management, business administration or accountancy);
  • a first degree in another field but with relevant work experience; or professional qualifications as deemed appropriate by a formal mapping exercise.

For applicants who have not studied their previous qualifications in English a TOEFL score of at least 575 (written)/230 (computer-based) or an academic IELTS score of at least 6.0 will be required.

Subjects to Study

The course has four core modules covering key aspects of business information systems, e-business strategy and information management. An additional core module helps you to develop the research and problem solving skills you will need to become a master’s level independent learner and practical problem solver in your field.

In addition to the core modules you will choose two optional modules. The optional modules allow you to tailor your programme of study depending whether you wish to progress into management or become a specialist in one of the fields of information systems.

Finally you will complete a dissertation, which allows you to carry out a significant piece of project work researching an aspect of business information systems and produce findings which are often of relevance and importance to contemporary organisations in the improvement of their information systems.
